World University Service (WUS) Health Centre (HC) was commissioned by World University Service, a Geneva based international Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in March, 1955. Subsequently, three more Health Centres in South Campus (02.01.1978) and West Delhi (01.05.1983) were commissioned with assistance from University Grants Commission (UGC) and are fully operational.
Surrounded by tall lush green trees WUS Health Centre in North Campus is still an abode for peacocks and other birds which are often seen on the parapet and roof of the building. The campus is famous for a very nicely maintained nursery with several herbal & medicinal plants and has won accolades and several trophies in the Annual Flower Shows of the University.
WUS HC has always keenly participated in various National Health Programme of Government of India e.g. World Health Day, World Heart Day etc. It organizes various health checkups and Blood Donation Camps in association with various NGOs. It has always deputed its staff for International Games and other tournaments being held in the University of Delhi and at other University functions. WUS Health Centre organizes several Continuing Medical Education (CME) for updating the knowledge of Medical Officers.
WUS HC provides Contributory Health Service Scheme. It caters to the health needs of all employees (Teaching and Non-teaching) of University of Delhi and University maintained Colleges, their family members and University students. At present approximately 7200 superannuated University employees, over 18,500 permanent employees, their dependents and several resident, non-resident students are availing its services. It is catering to a footfall of 600 to 800 beneficiaries per day for the last several years.
Vision : To develop the institution for delivery of Primary Health Care in a comprehensive manner for the employees and students of the University.
Mission : To provide inbuilt efficient and streamlined health services to the University fraternity. Specialized treatment is provided by our own Specialists and through a large number of empanelled Hospitals & Diagnostic Centres.
W.U.S. Health Centre (North Campus) is the nodal point which presently, has a well-cohesive team of Nine Medical Officers and thirteen Visiting Specialists. The Specialists provide consultation services for two hours in the fields of Neurology (once a week), Cardiology (thrice a week), Psychiatry (once a week), Orthopaedics (five days a week), Pediatrics (four days a week), Ophthalmology (three days a week), Dermatology (four days a week) and Dental [(2 hours, six days a week (Morning) and 2 hours three days a week (Evening)]. Two Physiotherapists, eight Pharmacists, Clinico-Pathology Laboratory Technician, four Nurses and three Dressers provide Paramedical Services. The Centre is well equipped with a Basic Life Support Ambulance and providing all Emergency Services 24 x 7. We have a MCD run Ayurvedic Dispensary from Monday to Saturday.
Investigations being carried out include : Complete Blood Count, Peripheral Blood Smear for Malarial Parasite, ESR, Widal Test to diagnose Enteric Fever, Platelet Count, Typhidot for IgG and IgM antibodies, Dengue NS1 Antigen, Chikungunya IgM, Liver Function Test, Lipid Profile, Blood Sugar – Fasting & Postprandial, Kidney Function Tests, Thyroid Function Tests, Serum Calcium, C-Reactive Protein, Rheumatoid Arthritis Factor, Pregnancy Test, Routine Stool and Urine Examination including Occult Blood in stool, HBsAg, VDRL etc. The Centre is well equipped with computed Radiography (CR) System as an attachment for 500mA Siemens X-Ray Machine and ECG Facility.
W.U.S. Health Centre (South Campus) has two Chief Medical Officers, One Medical Consultant, One Medical Officer and five Specialists. The specialists provide specialized services for two hours in Cardiology (thrice a week), Orthopaedics (once a week), Ophthalmology (twice a week) and Dentistry (thrice a week). The Centre is well equipped with a Physiotherapy unit managed by one Physiotherapist and Pharmacy by two Pharmacists. South Campus has Homeopathic Dispensary from Monday to Saturday.
